I was at school with my best friend and our classes wasn't gonna start until 10 AM so we had free time. We decided to sit down and chat at one of our school benches. It was one of those concrete, square tables that had seats on opposite sides so we sat opposite each other.
She began working with her Research Paper work, our project for English class. I was waiting for my group mates so we could start. I was growing impatient so I took out my mini sketch pad and began finishing a WIP. In the middle of coloring it in two boys around half my age went up to me.
Boy1: Hey, what's your name?
Boy1: Oh that's nice.
Me: Thanks, and your name?
Boy1: That's a really cool cat
Me: Thank you
Boy1: What did you use?
Me: Everything in this pencil case //shows pencil case filled with ballpens, highlighters, pentelpen and pencils
Boy1: You're really good! Why don't you use crayons?
Me: Because mine always break
Boy1: What about color pencils?
Me: I'm too lazy to keep sharpening them
Boy1: Can I see your other drawings?
Me: Sure, why not?
So his cousin, the other guy sat even closer to him and they begin scanning my mini sketchbook.
Boy2: Woaah look at the really cool colors. I really like this page-
Boy1: I like this better. She reminds me of our cousin, she was really good in art too
Boy1: Hey what grade are you in?
Me: 4th year
Boy1: Ohh 4th year
Boy2: Oh, we're in Grade 3.
I don't know why but we started talking about how our system/curriculum was different from K-12. (By this time I was assuming they were from the same school as me.)
Me: Are you classmates?
Boy1: No, but we used to be at our old school.
Me: Oh right, you can't be classmates here at -school- (because cousins)
Boy1: Why not?
Me: I think they think you'll copy off each other's work at home.
Boy1: Nah, I'm smarter than him
Boy2: No, I'm smarter. You're dumber.
(Turns out they had the same averages )
After their argument, it started to feel like the first boy was interviewing me.
Boy1: So you're going to college after you graduate right?
Boy1: What course are you going to take?
Me: Fine Arts (I hadn't thought of the college-problem thing I have at that time, it sort of just came to me it was the right course to say)
Boy1: What do you do in Fine Arts?
Me: If I'm right you learn about Art history and you draw and paint and all kinds of stuff
Boy1: That's cool. But what happens if you keep drawing and drawing and you run out of paper?
Me: I'll draw on my hands.
Boy1: And if your hands are full?
Me: I'll draw on my feet.
(I literally feel no discomfort drawing on my body--- I draw over dry wounds sometimes )
Boy1: Then you can't wear shoes anymore.
Me: Yeah it's kind of a school rule to wear shoes. Sort of. I'll figure it out.
Boy1: Hey, can I ask for a sheet of paper?
(TAKE NOTE I NEVER LET ANYONE RIP OFF OR DRAW IN MY MINI SKETCHBOOK. EVER. IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ME.)
Me:Yeah, sure o 7 o
Boy2: Make that two
Me: Oh okay
Boy2: Can I borrow a pen?
Boy1: Can I borrow a pencil?
Me: Oh you can use whatever you want in this pencil case~
(I NEVER LET PEOPLE TOUCH MY PENCIL CASE EITHER BUT THESE KIDS MADE IT FEEL LIKE I JUST HAD TO LET THEM)
So we began drawing, and my groupmate arrived. It turns out we didn't do any group work anyway since we were so busy drawing
Boy1: What time is it?
Me: 9:45-ish, our class starts at 10
Boy2: Oooh we have plenty of time (because 15 minutes is apparently plenty to him)
Boy1: What's your name again?
Me: -name-, -writes signature on the now finished WIP-
Boy1: Okay, got it. -repeats my name over and over to himself-
A few minutes passed and Boy1 asked me to draw him anime girl eyes and if he should try to draw the girl's hands (he didn't by the way ) while Boy2 started coloring his work(he was pretty good).
After 15 minutes they stopped drawing to get snacks and I went to class.
2 hours later, 12:00+ NN
My groupmates and I were heading out of the campus to get lunch and to finish our project.
A few steps away from the gate there was a shaded area with more benches and a vending machine. That's where most of the parents and friend etc of the students who were taking entrance exams waited. So my friends and I were exiting the gate when the two boys waved at me, so I waved back~
Boy1: Byeeeeee, -name-~
Me: Byeeee, -boy's name-~
I didn't use to like kids.
They changed my outlook on life.
Thank You EJ
